A movie that sets your mind ablaze!!

After being fed on rather dull movies for the past 1 month, I decided to make use of my set top box which I rarely used except for watching the History channel. I would never regret turning it on this saturday in the noon because I watched the most brilliant movie scripted by the leading actors in the movie - Ben Affleck and Matt Damon. The movie is of course GOOD WILLING HUNTING. To kindle your memory, this move was released in 1997 and Damon/Affleck won an oscar for their script. Why they won the oscar is pretty obvious when you see the movie.

Heres the jist of the story. Its the story of a janitor Will Hunting at MIT who could solve complex mathematics and physical problems but could not solve simpler porblems with his real life. He is being pursued by the maniacal professor at MIT who wants to publicise him and coach him. He could solve the hardest problem much simpler than the professor and the professor doesnt want to lose him. At the other end are his lover, a harvard grad who wants to give him his full love and the shrink brilliantly played by Robin Williams who wants to teach him what is the real happiness and how he should get on with life. But Will Hunting evades all three of them becuase he is afraid to face life. While algebra and exponents come easy for him, love and trust does not. With the help of his therapist, Will begins to deal with his low self-esteem, fear of intimacy, and past physical abuse, until Will uses his intelligence and goes after a woman who loved him uncondiionally, to proclaim a life worth living.

Will Hunting is a genius in mathematics, although he never had a University education. His great advantage is a mind that collects data in an astonishing way, and his main fault his inability to commit himself in any kind of relationship. The professor who discovers him wants him to work on the mathematics field, and have a life full of job. But his therapist wants Will to find happiness. Eventually they will both help each other out, to find the true path in their lives.

This is the story of a young man who is struggling with the fact that he is a genius and doesn't want to live up the expectations of everyone around him. Damon plays the brilliant genius Will Hunting. Robin Williams plays his therapist. Williams is aweosme when he describes his wife and in the end when he says " That boy stole my day". Affleck plays Will's good friend and in the end he motivates Will to make his decision. One superb scene is in towrds the end when the professor wishes he was as brilliant as Will and realises that he is not even close to Will in his brilliance.

This movie is definitely a must for all the youngsters who want to break free. I must say this was one move which totally captivated me. Hats off to Damon/Affleck and Williams. I recommend this movie to everyone.

MUSIC - THE HEALER OF MALADIES

This is one thing I tried out last week when I was down with fever. closed my room and listened to the theme song of forrest gump - "Turn, turn" by Byrds. The music seemed to be more comforting than the cool air from the A/C.Note the point that it is necessary to use an A/C in chennai even though you are down with fever otherwise you would feel like sitting right in the middle of a hot stove. I felt a lil better than before. To continue feeling better, I played the next track called "I remember" by Madonna. The feeling of goodness increased rapidly and I found my weariness creeping away. Encouraged I switched to tamil songs. I started with Illayaraja's "How to name it". It was awesome. I followed it with AR Rahman in his classic Roja. The music and the lyrics were infectious and I found myself humming loudly with the music. Believe it or not...the music worked better than the amoxycillin that was in my system. I was feeling energetic and better. I am sorry that I dont understand classical music otherwise I have heard that it works wonders and brigs you alive. To each his own. Heres what I would suggest when you are down. Take your walkman/ipods and go to bed. At the end of your rest you would come energised and relaxed.
